We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then is not an act, but a habit. - Aristotle
You should remember that self-discipline
comes from within. You cannot do anything about it. If you want to be
successful, you will have to be a little bit of a self-disciplinarian yourself
and that is probably the hardest thing to understand.
Why You Should Be Self-Disciplined?
For anyone reading this, you must be self-disciplined. Why? Because it’s one of the most valuable qualities you can have as a human being.
Being self-disciplined can help you excel in any kind of setting. Whether you’re trying to get a higher-paying job, you’re trying to be successful in your relationships, or you’re trying to achieve some other goal in your life, you need to be self-disciplined.
- Self-Discipline Can Help You Be Successful In
Life.
You’re going to be judged by how
you behave.
In fact, according to many
studies, most people look at someone’s behaviors, rather than their looks, to
determine their worth.
If you want to be successful in life, you need to show people that you’re a conscientious person, a person that makes good decisions, and a person that lives an honorable and respectful lifestyle.
I think the biggest problem for most people is that when they start being self-disciplined, they don’t want to show anyone that they’re making progress.
I’ve seen this a lot myself. But it’s not the case for everyone. If you’re someone that thrives on other people’s recognition, and you want to see yourself succeed, being self-disciplined can be hard.
You’ll have to be disciplined and consistent with your new behavior, as well as the fact that you’re still showing up to do the things that will make you stand out.
- Be Self-Disciplined And You’ll Be More Productive.
Self-disciplined people are generally more productive than people who are not. Self-disciplined people tend to work on projects that are bigger in scope than those who don’t make the same effort.
The same can be said for the
people who stay organized. Self-disciplined people are better at getting things
done.
That’s why I often say that if you want to become more productive, self-discipline is the way to go.
If you don’t take the time and effort to schedule your tasks in a way that makes sense, then you’re most likely going to end up failing because you won’t get as much done as you should be getting done.
By keeping your schedule organized, you’ll end up being more productive. You’ll work at a faster pace, and you’ll find the willpower to get more things done as a result.
- Becoming Self-Disciplined Will Help You Get More
Money.
If you want to succeed in life, then you need to believe that you can have whatever you want, whenever you want it. That’s going to be difficult for some people, but you have to make it a priority to create self-discipline.
I don’t recommend doing it out of obligation, or because you feel that you have to. You need to find the desire to want it.
If you don’t believe that you can make money in your career, then it’s going to be difficult for you to get the motivation you need to stay in that same place or career path for too long.
It’s going to be hard to believe
that you can get more money when you see everyone around you getting wealthier.
I guarantee you that the people who are getting rich aren’t showing that to the rest of the world. They’re still doing their day-to-day jobs.
But the people who are still getting paid well don’t have the drive to work harder or smarter. Now let us see what you can do to become self-disciplined, in life, career, and business;
Here are 10 things you must do to be self-disciplined;
1. Develop Good Time Management Skills.
There is no getting around the
fact that if you want to be successful in life and business you will have to
develop some kind of time management skills. Time management is vital to being productive in your career or businee
You must have self-discipline in your time management and this will come as a result of you practicing other self-disciplined skills. You will have to develop some kind of life organization and time management skills.
In the book "How to Make a Living" Rembrandt Johnson explains time management as "managing your life so you have the right number of the right things done at the right time."
We all know how difficult it
is to get things done on time. However, the trick is to create what is called
"the right amount of time."
The more things you can do in a short amount of time, the less time will be wasted doing things that don’t matter and the more time you will have for the things that do matter.
Time management means having only the right number of things done at the right time. And the way to find out how many things should be done at a specific time is to take everything that you are doing and work out how many minutes you would need to complete each of the things.
2. You Have To Know How To Control Your Urges.
You can spend a lot of time
trying to control your urges. But the truth is that you will never
be able to control your urges. It is always going to be a case of you trying to
balance them against what you want and what you need.
And the truth is that you will always have an urge to do the wrong thing.
A great man once said,
An urge is an urge. Whether it's right or wrong, strong or weak, it's just an urge.
You have to accept that you
will always have an urge to do something, and it is only when you can
balance the urge against what you need that you can get control of your urges.
You may also want to remember that your urges are the thoughts that you had. If you want to be self-disciplined, you can change what you are thinking about to change your urges.
3. You Must Develop A High Self-Esteem.
There is nothing more important than your self-esteem. But how high can your self-esteem be? We are all born with a sense of self-worth. But most of us let it decrease over time.
If you are interested in
developing high self-esteem, the first thing you must do is to have a good
life. This is your priority.
Once you are in a good situation with a good life, your self-esteem will automatically increase.
But it is impossible to make
yourself feel good when you are unhappy. So, if you want to have high
self-esteem you need to be in a good situation.
For example, you could spend
hours working on your business, writing, or something that will make you feel
great.
But remember, if you have nothing to work for, then you will have nothing to work on.
If you want to develop high self-esteem, the first thing you must do is to make sure you have a good life.
4. Accept Responsibility For Your Actions.
Some people are very good at blaming others for their actions, and others are very good at accepting responsibility for their actions.
And if you have not noticed, most people are very good at taking responsibility for their actions. So, if you want to be successful in life and business, you will have to develop the skill of taking responsibility for your actions.
You must have the capacity to accept responsibility for your actions.
A great man once said,
When the time comes for you to accept responsibility for your actions you must not be able to avoid it.
If you want to succeed, you will
need to be a "take-responsibility person." And the way to get there
is to realize that you will always be responsible for your actions and your
results.
So, if you want to improve in life and business, you must take responsibility for your actions and your results.
5. You Must Set And Meet Objectives.
Another key to self-discipline is being a "setting and meeting person." You have to understand what you want, and you have to set the objective that will get you there. You must be clear and definite about what you want.
You must be clear and definite about what you want.
This requires self-discipline because it means you are always setting the right things. If you want to be self-disciplined, you must always be setting the right things. And the way to do this is to be very clear about what you want. You must always be able to define the right things.
As an example, if you want to lose weight, you must define the things that you want. Let’s say, "I want to have a five-pound weight loss by a particular date."
6. You Must Be Able To Take Action.
All of us are very good at talking about things. But when it comes to taking action, we can be very poor at it. There are a lot of people who are very good at just talking about things, and while you may be able to talk the talk, there is no way you can talk the walk.
If you want to be self-disciplined, you must learn to take action. You will be able to develop good acting skills when you can learn and practice the skill of setting the right things, meeting the right things, and taking the right action.
You can always develop more action skills by talking about the things you want and then taking action. The more times you take action, the better you will become.
7. You Have To Discipline Yourself To Be Successful.
The best thing you can do for your success is to discipline yourself to be successful. If you want to be successful in life and business, you have to develop the skill of self-discipline. So, discipline is one of the attitudes you have to be successful.
To be self-disciplined is to
have the skill of keeping yourself focused on the things that matter and the things
that will bring you results.
Some people just try to spend all of their time on the things that are important to them. They always have a lot of interest in doing the things that are important to them
But if you want to be self-disciplined, you need to find ways to keep yourself focused on the things that are important to you. You must be able to find ways to keep yourself on track.
8. You Must Understand That You Can Choose Your Actions.
It is very easy to make
excuses for why you cannot take action. But if you want to be
self-disciplined, you have to realize that you have a choice.
If you want to improve your
results, you can choose to do things differently.
For example, if you want to lose weight, you could say, "I just don’t have the time to exercise." Or you could say, "I am too busy working, writing, and making business deals."
Or if you want to be successful,
you could say, "I am too busy working, writing, and making business deals.
So, I don’t have time to think about my health." To be truly successful
you should also consider your health and take care of it.
There is no question about it, if you want to be successful, you have a choice. You can choose to take action or you can choose to choose not to take action.
You can choose to be disciplined or you can choose to be undisciplined. The truth is that you will always be able to take the first action. But once you have taken the action, you will always be able to choose what happens next.
You should be able to choose to take the second action. And the moment you have taken the second action, you can always decide what happens next.
9. Understand The Power Of Your Subconscious Mind.
Your subconscious mind will always be pulling at you. It is pulling at you to do certain things, and it is also pulling at you to do things that will destroy you.
So, to be self-disciplined, you must learn to control your subconscious mind. You must learn how to bring order to your life and how to balance your life to avoid problems and conflicts.
10. Have The Power To Eliminate Negative Influences.
It is very easy to keep the pressure on yourself. And to be successful, you must develop the skill to be able to keep the pressure on yourself to the right level.
You must have the power to remove
damaging influences from your life and pursuit. If you want to be successful
in life and business, you must develop the skill to do away with undesirable people
that don’t impact you rightly.
And the first step in eliminating negative influences is to get rid of people who bring out the negative side in you.
So, if you want to be
self-disciplined, you must get rid of people who don’t help you. You need to
learn to surround yourself with people who want the best for you.
Also, you must learn how to eliminate negative influences so that you can remove the negative habits in your life that will affect your journey.
The most important thing you can
do to develop the skills of self-discipline is to learn how to be a little bit
self-disciplined and how to be a little bit self-indulgent.
Because if you develop
self-discipline, you will have the wisdom to know which actions are good and
which actions are bad.
And as you learn these skills, you will learn
how to be disciplined and how to be indulgent at the same time.
